Harvest

Sometime this afternoon...

Misis: Naadik ako dito sa farm town sa facebook

Tikboy: Ngek! Kelan ka pa natuto niyan?

Misis: Tingnan mo Mahal para ma-harvest mo 'yung farm ko pag sleep me. Hehehe

I got curious as to what this Farm Town apps in Facebook is that everybody seems to play and get addicted to. I promised Misis Tikboy earlier before she went to work that I'll harvest her potato field at 11 tonight. So I waited for her call to get into her FB account and listened to her instructions on how to do it. I was half smiling the whole time because she was 30 minutes late. She's so damn busy at work but she managed to sneak in a little time to make this "harvest" thing. I'm really curious on how this apps work and what makes it appealing and irresistible to those who starts playing it. So, I googled it and found this article in eHow

Farm Town is a lively, engaging and fun interactive farming program on the Facebook social networking site. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your "down-home" experience!

Instructions
Things You'll Need: * Facebook account

Step 1

Once you are a Facebook user, simply search the applications for "Farm Town". When you are prompted, allow access to the application and it will set up a new virtual farm for you. All "farmers" start at Level 1 as a "Getting Started Farmer". With the game "coins" you will begin by using the "hoe" icon to plow fields, the "store icon" to buy seeds to plant and the "scythe" icon to harvest them. Once you harvest them(and always use the harvest and store option - you get more coins than harvest and sell!), you will see the harvests accumulate in your "shed". When you are ready, click the shed icon and it will take you to the market to sell the harvest for more coins. Then you go back to your farm to plow and plant more seeds!

Step 2

There are really three way to "win" or advance levels in Farm Town: 1) plant and harvest crops as indicated above, 2) hire workers to help you harvest your fields and 3) invite and visit neighbors. For the first option, just use the plant, harvest and sell option to earn coins. This is a slow and steady way to make a beautiful farm.

Step 3

As with all real farm communities, growth comes with community! The second option to earning coins is to visit the marketplace FIRST and hire workers to pick your crops for you. They receive a nice payment of coins and you receive your full crop price - PLUS 25% for hiring them to do it. You will ALWAYS receive more for your crops if someone else harvests them. A hint - add the workers you hire to your buddy list (click on their icon and you'll find the action) if they do a nice job and you have guaranteed good workers the next time- plus, they will probably hire you, too, when they need help!

Step 4

The last way to earn extra coins is to make and visit neighbors. Neighbors are those people you invite from your Facebook friends, which makes them different from buddies, whom you add while you are in Farm Town. Each neighbor will be added to your neighbor list and you can earn coins by going to their farm each day and "helping" them by raking, watering, etc. You can also send and receive Farm Town gifts from neighbors, both trees and farm animals. You can use them to grow fruit and populate your farm, or sell them at the market to earn more coins. Visiting and helping your neighbors will also help you earn the 8 Farm Town trophies!

Step 5

As in real life, as you get more money, your options increase. With each new level, new seeds and farm items will become available for you to buy. The seeds will cost more but will yield more coins when harvested. The gifts you receive and send to neighbors will also be worth more, so start cultivating neighbors so you can receive gifts every day. Once you reach level 15 and above, you will also be able to buy more land to make your farm larger. Since this allows you to plant more crops, this will help you bank account grow as well.

Step 6

Playing Farm Town and is fun and diverting and the creators are always adding new items to buy and seeds to plant, so it never gets tiring. Enjoy your new career and I hope to see you around the Marketplace!

So, will I be as hooked as my wife is? We'll see. She just introduced me to it. I was telling her that I'll just harvest her field whenever she's at work. But she wants me to learn it. Sabi ko kanina paano ba maglaro nun, sagot niya tuturuan na lang daw niya ako pag-uwi niya dito. Ngek!
