Freedom of expression and Proposition 8

We went to Huntington Beach in CA a day before we drive back to AZ. On our way there I saw groups of people on the streets holding banners on Proposition 8. One group says NO and the other says YES. I was asking Misis Tikboy what it is but she isn't sure. We were actually so engrossed with each other that we seldon talk about politics and the election.
So, I observed. I took a glance at each official logo. Proposition 8 is a state initiative to ban same sex-marriages in California. I haven't been in the LGBT loop since 2002, the only thing that I'm aware of is that Ellen (my wife's got a huge crush on her) and Portia's wedding happened in California where it is allowed and San Francisco is the haven of LGBT community.

We crossed the street and saw the YES and NO groups side by side.
Mister Tikboy: Mahal, pwede dito 'yan? Nagdi-debate sila sa kalye? Buti hindi nagsasapakan? Humihingi pa ba sila ng permit?Misis Tikboy: Oo naman, freedom of speech eh. Hindi na kailangan ng permit.
Mister Tikboy: Oo nga naman, land of the free nga pala ito. Misis Tikboy: Wag nga tayo dumaan sa harap nila at baka maging example pa tayo!
Natawa tuloy ako. Magka-holding hands kasi kami. Eh dito pa naman understood na pag nag-holding hands ang dalawang babae or lalaki siguradong couple 'yun. Sure, we still got the looks from people around us. But we're used to it. Eh sa Pilipinas pa naman talagang pansinan na kami eh.

Ah, dami ko observations dito sa Amerika. Sa mga susunod na araw ipo-post na lang namin lahat ng 'yun.
